Derek Flint vs. James Bond

Who would win in a fight? James is an expert with his Walther PPK and is a fairly proficient hand-to-hand fighter. Flint has his trusty lighter of 83 uses and has also been known to kick ass in a melee. Both are great at getting out of tight situations. Who would win?

reply

FLINT would win. Bond always leaves people alive, Flint kills EVERY PERSON in the first movie.

reply

I don't think there would ever be a situation were they would have to kill each other.

reply

Moore is INDEED less!

I don't know about who would win in a fight. I do know that I never really got into James Bond films, but I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Derek Flint. I thought James Coburn was too cool in this role.

I don't know, I wish they had done more. If memory serves, they were more critical successes than box office successes and you know in Hollywood it's all about box office.

On the question of why only two Flint movies: I read somewhere that James Coburn was offered stupid scripts. He wanted to expand the character, not just have him an agent of ZOWIE. I read in another interview where he said that he loved the character -- "a self-evolved man" as he put it.

On a Flint - Bond fight. Bond is a genuis. But Flint is a super genuis. Bond is a genuis in fighting, but Flint is a master. No doubt Bond would be his toughest opponent; both know all the dirty tricks. But if in a parallel universe, they met, and somehow had to fight to the death, it would be Flint.

Likely both films were hits, with the Bond fans an automatic audience. A great parody like this? Look at Austin Powers; the Bond fans made those hits.
My dad was vacationing for three months in Asia at the time; he saw OMF a couple of times. I lafff at that, my dad a Flint fan. Btw, he's also a Bond fan. He saw You Only Live Twice (his first 007 film) around the time of OMF, I think. I think he prefers Flint to Bond in the long run, since his (dad) sense of humor bounces with Flint's. Also, there are more girls in Flint, it seems.

PS - there was a James Coburn website with a Flint vs. Bond (not only fighting, but everything, from hair, to weapons, girls, etc). Flint won something like 80% of the catagories.

reply

Well, James Coburn apparently made more money playing Derek Flint in the 60s then Sean Connery made playing Bond in the 60s. So he won that battle!

Apparently, so did Dean Martin.

But without Bond to lead the way there would have been no Flint. I love Flint, but I love the Connery Bond movies too. And I wouldn't bet on who would win, since Bond would have no hesitation to not even pretend to fight fair. Might run away to fight another time when he had better odds.

reply

As much as I love Bond...Flint is superior. Flint ALWAYS made the right choice. The same couldnt be said of Bond.

reply

Cobern / Flint was a better fighter in OMF than any Bond actor except George Lazenby.

That said, the film itself is not a patch on the Bond series, with the possible exception of The Man With The Golden Gun.

reply

Flint!

reply

Remember Cobern took all those lessons from Bruce Lee....Of course Flint would win.

reply

they're pretty equally matched in my opinion, I'm not too sure who would win

but I can tell ya, it would be the most epic Spy vs Spy fight ever

back in 98 I did a titty comedy for Skinemax. Sex Camp, ya remember it?

It depends on what would be funny. Bond and Flint are both comedies. Just because Flint is more over-the-top than Bond doesn't mean that he should "win".

The most likely "fight" between them would be a social one, trying to outdo each other rather than hitting each other.

Isnt Flint supposed to be great at EVERYTHING, I think he'd beat Bond pretty easily
