Terrible film.

I wanted to see it because I wanted to see more of the film genre that Baby Jane spawned, but it's a shame, they've all been terrible including this one. I guess What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? is truly in a league of its own.

There is no accounting for taste. Fantastic film!

There is nothing fantastic about this movie, I'm sorry.

I agree, jim14; it's a fantastic film.

I remember seeing it when I was young, sitting on the edge of my seat. As an adult, I think the film holds up extraordinarily well. William Dix, although a young child when this was filmed, gave an extraordinary performance. He held his own with the superb Bette Davis.

The OP is a well-known troll. Ignore.

THE NANNY is widely regarded as Bette's last good role on the big screen.

I LOVED Bette in the Nanny, but I disagree that it's her last good role on the big screen--that belongs to another Hammer film, The Anniversary, which is also stupendous (but not a horror film).

The Nanny isn't so much a horror film as it is a study of a very disciplined woman who suddenly finds her well-ordered world crashing around her. First, the phone call from the doctor (with a demand that she comes to her daughter's flat ASAP), then making the mistake of leaving the two children alone (never mind that Suzy's death could've also occurred with Nanny in the apartment--you can't watch children every second), and then accidentally attributing to Suzy's death. It's enough to send her over the edge of psychological despair, and I doubt she was ever the same again after that.

In essence, she never really killed anyone. She kept the medicine away from Aunt Pen (what is it with Bette and withholding medicines? She did the same thing in The Little Foxes), and that's it. She tried to kill Joey but didn't go through with it. All of her actions and "crimes" could be attributed to mental illness at the worst and neglect at the best.

Bette was stupendous in The Nanny!

Great reading of the character, I agree with of all of this. It’s the same level of sympathy I felt for Robin Williams’ Sy in One Hour Photo, another disturbed character remembered as a villain.

from Davis' repertoire - 'Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte' is excellent,
from Crawford - 'Strait Jacket' I watched multiple times and still like
both made shortly after Baby Jane.

from other actresses
Barbara Stanwyck - Night Walker
Shelley Winters & Debbie Reynold - Whats the Matter with Helen

and the practice of older female stars in horror films continued to 2000s, my favorite is Gena Rowlands in 'Skeleton Key'.

I think it's great. It has a story and characters that truly engross me and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for most of the running time. For me, that's a sign of a very good movie.

It's nothing special but a good little thriller none-the-less.

You could see the 'twist' coming a mile away but it did have some tense scenes and the acting was good.

One thing you can count on in the movies--if a movie is good and/or successful, a dozen producers will make an imitation that doesn't come close to the original.
