Monster a go-go or Manos?

Which one is worse? I say Manos. They are both really bad, so I really wish that IMDb had less than 1 for rating.

Good question. I'd say that Manos, the Hands of Fate and Moster A Go-Go are the worst movies that I've ever seen on MST3K. Monster A Go-Go is a bit worse, though. At least Manos was in color! I will admit that Manos, the Hands of Fate was more unintentionally funny than Monster A Go-Go.

Manos actually had some sort of interesting characters and sort of a plot, it was actually sort of a movie, Monster A Go-Go is...well...a guy with a camera randomly shooting scenes and smashing them together. I used to say Manos was the worst movie ever but I have no idea how anyone can say that after seeing Monster.

I would have to say that Monster A-Go-Go is definitely the worst film I have ever seen. I can't help but laugh while saying that. Sure, Manos is a terrible film but I think it is too often cited by MST3K crew and others as the worst movie ever made. Another one which often gets noticed is Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space. Sure these are both awful pieces of celluloid, but they are quite enjoyable. I mean Tarantino even said (though this is depending on how reliable MST3K Trivia is for the facts) that Manos: Hands of Fate was one of his personal favorite films.

Monster A-Go-Go is the worst film I've ever seen in that it has really no plot, or it does, but the plot is so bland, paper thin and forgettable that it is the same as having no plot, the dialogue is terrible, the film quality makes watching it "equivalent to eating paper and staring at a blank wall," as my friend above stated, and the ending might be the biggest cop out in the history of film. I mean Hal Warren took pride in what he was making, so did Ed Wood. There was no way either of these directors would allow such an end to their film, because any one with half a brain knows that the ending to Monster A-Go-Go basically rapes the viewer, letting them know that they have just wasted their time even more than they initially thought.

Sometimes it is fun to watch bad movies to make fun of them, like most MST3K episodes, but there are certain bad movies which give the term "bad movies" a bad name. Monster A-Go-Go is the worst of these, followed closely by Creeping Terror, but that's another story.

IN closing, let me say that I think Manos has really achieved something in the annals of B-movie history. Monster A-Go-Go continues to inspire suicides.

Monster a go-go is worse than Manos. To repeat what was said before, Manos acutally had something resembling a plot and a real ending. Ugh, this was boring.

In order from least painful to wanting to rub broken glass in my eyes:

Hobgoblins:It's bad but at least it has a begining, a middle, and an end.

Manos: The Hands of Fate:Endless driving scenes, but Torgo provides some amusement, and as I said before, a real ending. Plus, with this film and Hobgoblins I was actually able to keep all the characters straight.

Monster A Go-Go:painful beyond words. Can't hear the dialouge, can't keep any of the characters straight, and what the hell was up with that person making the phone nosie? In two earlier scenes they used a painfully loud phone sound effect, why didn't they just loop it in for a third time? And the non-ending, dear lord...

Monster a go-go had the larger budget with no plot and had to rely on narration to explain the painful to watch editing. Manos had a really low budget and it looked like it. I think Monter a go-go was the worse of these two.

But like the MST3k theme songs says, "We'll send him cheesy movies, the worst we can find.." Clearly, these both were the worst they could find.

Monster a go-go hands down

It was just so boring and unwatchable,I couldn't watch the whole thing

It's a miracle if you can watch the whole movie in one sitting

If I saw this in the theater,it wouldn't be long until I fall asleep

and i agree with lldeland that both of these movies were the worst they could find

Monster a go go makes Manos seem like Kubrick.

Manos had a semblance of the script. Manos looped in sound later so you COULD HEAR THE DIALOG. Manos had an ending. Manos had Torgo.

Monster had nothing. Nothing happened. Just random shots edited ineptly together. Shots of cars driving back and forth in the dark. Not to mention the WORST ENDING EVER. I will never complain about the ending of The Village again after I have seen this.

Ugh.

"...And Nicolas Cage as Fu Manchu"

My vote goes to Monster a Go-Go. As amateurish as Manos was, at least its plot made some semblance of sense.

reply

I agree, when I saw the end of Manos, the plot made more sense to me. Apparently the master (aka Frank Zappa or Freddie Mercury, loved those lines!) built the valley lodge so that people who dive up there would be part of his cult, the females would be part of the white dress women and the oldest male would be the new servent, in this movie, Margaret and Debbie were the newest of the wives and Micheal was the new servent after they killed Torgo. In Monster a Go-Go, it's more like an "Unsolved Mysteries" movie. So there you have it.

The not to distant future really is not to distant, in fact, it may just be next Sunday A.D.!

Like everyone else on this board has said, Manos had somewhat of a plot, interesting costumes... and Torgo (along with his theme music <3). I don't remember the "plot" of monsters a go-go. I tried watching it and tried to make sense of it and ended up falling asleep... and to top it all off I was watching the MST3K version and still couldn't even make it through to the end.

I like to think of it this way: Manos is the worst movie ever...Monster-a-Go Go is a phenominally bad movie with the WORST ENDING EVER. If you can call that an ending.

Death is...whimsical today.

reply

I can sit down and make fun of Manos

Monster a Go Go is just completely unwatchable. I had to watch it in parts even with the crew pulling out some of my favorite skits and riffs.

Monster a Go Go is worse in my opinion

reply

Definitely Monster A Go-Go. Manos is watchable and its ineptness has a certain weird charm to it, but Monster A Go-Go is just a train wreck of a movie. It's so incredibly dull and poorly made that viewing it may very well turn a person into stone.

I've always thought the worst films that MST3K ever featured were the ones that just bored the life out of its audience, I'm talking to you COLEMAN FRANCIS! Give me the campy delights of an incredible melting man, a hobbling Torgo, or even a grinning hobgoblin any day, but keep those mind-numbing talkies without plot or point away from me! Radar makes BOREDOM possible!!!

reply

Having seen both, I'd say Monster a Go-Go is worse. They abandon characters completely halfway through the movie, and there are such long stretches where damn near nothing happens.

And then, of course, you have the non-ending.

Monster a Go-Go should be #1 on this list, but for some damn reason it's not even in the top 100. This is undoubtedly the result of dishonest voting intended to get some recent, big-budget film in. I say nuts to that.

Monster a Go-Go ranks up there with the worst THINGS a human being has ever produced. If everyone in the world were to watch this movie, it would be like global thermonuclear war.

reply

As bad as Manos is, it it least has a beginning, a middle and an end. Monster a Go Go is just random scenes spliced together.

reply

This was the pits of the world. At least you have to give Ed Wood some credit for effort - that's why you can stand to watch his films or even appreciate them. This had no value at all. I'm surprised they even tackled this one. This is kind of like watching what they used to call a "test pattern". E.g. Cheech and Chong:

Cheech: What are you watching, man?

Chong: This movie about Indians, but it's really boring.

Cheech: Hey man, like that's not a movie, man, that's a test pattern.

Chong: Really? Wow, far out.
