I sooo wanted her to be with him. Through all of the film I kept thinking, why are you leaving this perfect, sexy and sweet guy to fool around doing nothing important anyway?

The ending was so painful for me.

That's the whole point of the movie: the seduction of fame (love or envy from millions of people) blinds us to the value of real love from one person.

As McLuhan taught us, the very nature of the mass media (regardless of it's content) changes our cognitive structures, the very ways in which we think.

I think you nailed it. This may be the explanation for the song "Santa Lucia" at the end. St. Lucy was the patron saint of the blind, amongst other things.
