I don't know which that scene displays more, the cleverness of Bond or the sheer incompetence of Goldfinger's guards. How stupid to fall for something so silly.
It's probably a combination of both.
It was very funny actually, with the wink and that. I've always wondered how Bond managed to hold on the ceiling of the cell, especially without being seen as the guard was sitting there keeping an eye on him.
