Gladiator ripped off TFOTRE

Am I wrong or is Gladiator's plot ripped off from this film, while still attempting to remove any shred of integrity and consistency from it?

The characters are historical and actually existed. Obviously the movies portraying them will have similarities. Is that hard to understand or are you that limited?

Given that some of their share some of the key deviations from history I don't think that's completely fair. Namely the main protagonist being a fictional general who is in the favor of Marcus Aurelius who wants to pass power to him, Lucilla serves as one of his love interests, and Aurelius is murdered which allows Commodus to rise to power. Now don't get me wrong, I love Gladiator and their are a number of major differences in terms of characterization, theme, and story that allows them to feel set apart for me personally. But I don't think you should be insulting the OP's intelligence over that. At least just not for seeing similarities between the two and inquiring over one influencing the other.
