Theme song different on Season 5 DVDs

I just started watching Season 5 yesterday and there was a very noticeable difference in the opening theme song, but the music (without the words) at the end was the same as before. The new version of the opening song had the same words, but it was much faster and had a completely different sound....very "60's"....and I hated it.

Does anyone remember this from the original shows? I don't, but I'm getting old!! LOL

Yes you are completely right. I'm watching the episodes right now on RTV (Retro TV) and the older seasons the theme song is much slower and sounds much more like "folk music" or older ballads.

Then when I saw the newer "color versions" of Danial Boone the music was much faster and sang by different singers or a different group so you're not crazy or anything,LOL but absolutely right.

Lots of TV shows back then changed their theme songs and words thru the years. "Gilligan's Island" later "included" Mary Ann in their theme song.

Shows like Gilligan's Island and Petticoat Junction actually had new parts to their themes. Daniel Boone always had the same words, just different interpretations.

Season 6 had yet another group singing the theme. There were 3 versions I know of for Daniel Boone. The final one was a little softer and slower (that one had Rosey Grier in the starring cast).

I started out with Season 5 and I loved the theme. I just bought Season 6 and the theme is different. I liked Season 5 better. Funny I have not seen Season 1 thru 4 yet. I like Jimmy Dean and decided to start with the years he was on it.

I made a mistake earlier -- there were at least 4 versions of the theme: The original, the one for the in-between years, the Season 5 version, and the Season 6. I don't think the lyrics changed much if at all.

Season 1 is almost like watching a different show, with Albert Salmi on board and also beautiful Veronica Cartwright. But Cincinnatus, Rebecca, and Mingo are all around, and I think you will find it fascinating. Darby Hinton is so young in comparison to how you've seen him. Patricia Blair actually carrys him at times! And speaking of her, she is at her most beautiful in Season 1. In my opinion, her looks were fading by Season 6.

Seasons 2 through 4 are a little more like what you've already experienced. I like Mingo's great involvement in many of those episodes.

I wasn't sure at all about it at first but it grew on me. The electric guitar cracks me up every time. What I really like is in this version they sing ALL of the words, which had previously only happened at the end of earlier episodes. Most if not all seasons skipped the line "he was brave, he was fearless, and as tough as a mighty oak tree" at the beginning, which Season 5 includes.
