Boh Hope was an icon already by the 60's...
The man was overwhemingly rich..
He did what 4 other men did(Joel McCrea, Randolf Scott, Gene Aurty, Bing Crosby). They bought property, so by then these men owned 1/2 of California..
So he had clot.. His own production company..
So I don't know how these movies were made, or made any $$..
If they did, then the middle age and older went to these movies..
But as a boy then a young man.. me and all young people I knew of without an exception.. avoided these movies like the plague.
The man was a genius, did great things in the entertainment industry back in the 30's > 40's.. but begining with those 'doris Day' movies.. he lost the young crowd.
I try to watch them even now for the 'old days'.. but still can't get thru 15mins...
Hey the man lived til 100 !!!!!
He had a good life..

And it's "clout".
