My personal favorites from Season 1 (usually regarded as the superior season) are:

The Guests
Don't Open Till Doomsday
The Bellero Shield
It Crawled Out of the Woodwork
Forms of Things Unknown

From Season 2:

Demon with a Glass Hand (probably the best episode of the series IMHO)
Wolf 359
The Duplicate Man
Soldier

The first season was a mixture of sci-fi and gothic horror while the second was exclusively sci-fi. You should enjoy it if you make allowances for the 60's special effects which seem cheesy by today's standards. The stories more than make up for this.

Actually, most of the effects and makeup hold up very well, and in some
instances BETTER than later series. This is due to the black-and-white
photography for the most part. If you want to see cheesy makeup watch
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" or "Deep Space Nine."

What you say about black and white is true. My family had black and white televisions from 1957 through 1976. When I started watching things in color, the special effects came across as "lacking". Hell, my favorite shows were the old ones that been filmed in black and white.

It will probably be hard to believe now but at the time the monster in "The Architects of Fear" was so scary that it was hard to take. I was about 10 years old and it was terrifying, On the other hand there are a lot of scary scenes, including in that episode, that I think hold up. It's the way it's lighted and being in a basement with something coming down the only stairs, that sort of thing, that I think keeps an edge.
