How about Lorna and Liza remake

What do you think of a remake with Lorna Luff and Liza Minelli?

reply

Nice..but these are the three actresses I would pick if I did it tomorrow:

Faye Dunnaway
Jessica Lange
Octavia Spencer

And as the piano teacher, Edwin?

Eric Stonestreet or better yet, Nathan Lane.

I'm afraid the Garland sisters and Faye & Jessica are all wayyyyy to old for the parts in this story. Perhaps you don't realize that Bette & Joan were only 54 & 56 when they filmed this? The film works because they are middle-aged spinsters, not geriatrics. Especially back then when someone in their 60s was considered nearly end-of-life. Life expectancy in 1962 was 73 for females.

And that a remake WAS already done 20 years ago by 2 actual sisters, Vanessa & Lynn Redgrave, when they were 54 & 48 themselves.

Lorna and Liza are 61 & 67!!! Jessica & Faye are 64 & 72!!!!!!!

Well,I was thinking about how poor Liza looks now. Her makeup reminds me of Jane. Don't get me wrong, Liza is a great gal but her makeup is over the top.

Faye Dunnaway and Jessica Lange are excellent choices. Any notion that they're too old is just silly. I don't think there are many actresses around today that could do these roles justice but Faye and Jessica? Yeah!

reply

Faye already played Joan in Mommie Dearest. I doubt she would want to do it again.

reply

"Lorna Luff and Liza Minelli"? Sheesh.

The Redgrave remake didn't work very well - it was obvious there was very little enmity between the two. JANE needs the impetus of two stars who just may not quite be crazy about each other.

"In my case, self-absorption is completely justified."

I think this would be camp heaven for many but almost certainly a disaster.

could be a good musical comedy...

I've never seen Liza play a bitch before. Plus, unfortunately, I just don't think she has the stamina anymore to complete the role.

Ironically, as campy as a remake with Liza and Lorna would be, I just don't see how it could trump the original. It would come off desperate, in my opinion. Plus I think they'd be eaten alive by the critics---and even Liza's fans!

I think only a deranged queen would dream that up.
