never on tv

Very entertaining movie from the 60's.

I never saw this movie, but got some of the soundtrack on cd. It's great music, that's why I was curious about the movie.

In my mind this is one of the classic "epic" movies from the 60's. One of the scenes will stick with me for the rest of my life... The Cossak Muster. I makes me kind of sad that we'll never see 2000 real men on horseback in a movie again. An added plus is that im ukrainian, and this is like our ten commandments in that its based on a true story where the ukrainians overthrew the Pole's and set up their own kingdom (only to be conquered by the russians like 50 years later but what the hell)

I never really cared for tony curtis, but hes allright in this movie (disapointing that he didnt shave his head for this movie) but the real draw is good ole' Yul. My fave alltime actor he really overplays the title role, and its great. A must see for nostalgia film buffs.

It would be great to see this movie on tv. I'd watch just to see the scene near the end where the cossacks come out of the mountains to catch the poles in the open on the steppes. argentine steppes, of course. and the hand scene at the very beginning is a good one.

That cavalry charge is one of the very few scenes I remember, and why I'm here now, researching. :)

Good news! Taras Bulba is scheduled to be shown on TMC (The Movie Channel) on Thursday Sept 7th, 2006 at Approx 7:20AM. I don't have TMC but will try to get a friend to tape it for me.

It was on tv many years ago when Sunday nights were for big time movies. It was also on TCM a copuple of times. And you can get it now (watching it as I type) on Comcast On Demand. Never thought I would see it again. Yul Brynner is perfectly cast, Tony Curtis is not (tries hard though). Good film.....and don't we all remember when Yul cuts the officer's hand off in the beginning!!
