Peter Lore makes this from ok to excellent

Just cuaght this on srceam network last night for the first time in years. Peter Lore really makes this more than worth while. The Black Cat segment is really classic. The whole time Lore is on screen I am compelled to watch. Roger Corman is known for his Poe adaptations and that they have hummor and elements of horror in them. I like that, they work really well. I'll have to track this one down if for nothing more than for the Black Cat segment.

Agree. I can watch The Black Cat over and over. He is effortlessly funny with those one liners.

Fortunato: Well, I cannot resist.
Montresor: That I've noticed.

Fortunato: You killed her.
Montresor: You notice everything, don't you?

I agree. All three of the episodes were great but The Black Cat was great and very funny thanks to Lorre's great performance. I crack up just thinking about the wine tasting contest when he adds "It's very good." :)

Yea, Lorre was great. Loved the little comments he would make under his breath as he was talking to Price when he invited him over for dinner!

I just watched it last night. The funniest part for me is when Lorre simply walks up to a man on the street and says, "I want money!" Too bad Lorre couldn't have lived longer and more in Hollywood knew what to do with him.

He is amazin in this and black cat is my fav too...really good with epic ending...
You see us as a brain, an athelete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.

Just watched this yesterday in what may be 30 years.

Peter Lorre is a genius - you can go back to the 1930s and Fritz Lang's M to see he had talent to burn. Unfortunately for him he was born into a body that closed out some options for him - like playing a leading man, or any sort of action roles. Still, I've never seen him give a bad performance, and I've seen a lot of his movies. Always interesting.

Peter Lorre adds excellence to whatever he's in!
Curiously, when I first read 'The Cask of Amontillado' way back when, before I ever saw this movie, I pictured Price and Lorre playing it out - but with the roles reversed.

Lorre delivered a wonderful comic performance. He was definitely the highlight of the middle segment.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Not long ago, I read a book of Poe stories, including "Amontilado". I wound up picturing Price as the murderer, but the guy who was cheating on him with his wife, I pictured as Basil Rathbone! (This would be a more serious version, of course.)

A drunk Peter Lorre stumbling into and then taking over the "Wine Convention" is pure comedy.

The chemistry between Vincent Price and Lorre also helps make this easily the best segment of the three and that is even with the great performance from Basil Rathbone in the Valdemar segment.
