what a whore...

andrezj was right. "without me you'd be a whore!" he leaves and the first thing she does is cheat on him, with his enemy no less.

No. She's not a whore.

She's not transparent. Men call women of that ilk a "whore" when they need a term to put them in a place where they can be used to their advantage.

That is the man's problem. Not hers.

It seemed more like a way to get back at him. Otherwise she wouldn't have confessed. The point is that by telling him she slept with the hitchhiker, she gets even with him.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Her husband is an *beep* and much too old she has reason to cheat on him.
What kind of a person needs to keep up the pissing contest like this?
Hes older and should be wiser.

wtf is wrong with you? still doesn't justify cheating...

What Im trying to say is by being an *beep* he kind of pushed her into the young guys direction.

With his pathetic alpha male behaviour he achieved the exact opposite of what he wanted to achive.
His actions say "Im not too old for this woman" "this is my territory" "Im more of a man than this young guy" etc
but this is desperate and he is doomed to fail with this.

What is wrong with americans why does the woman need to be a perfect house wife and you always find 3 threads that are named "what a skank" etc
But you never see any thread "He was a dick and had it coming"

Its like the taliban forum here sometimes, "stone her to death"

I agree, there is a lot wrong with many Americans, particularly in their attitudes toward women. Misguided à la the husband's conceptions.

First of all, there was sexual tension built up throughout the movie, and as the husband brought along the student for his own amusement, any hopes of having sex on the trip were foiled (of course, out of courtesy to their guest), and they had to go along with a stranger on the boat, wrecking what probably was meant to be a romantic getaway. So there's tension there that does not get spoken of. "Why did you bring him along?" the wife asks, getting no answer.

And to the misogynists in this thread, the husband's jab "Without me, you'd be a whore!" did not fuel her behavior? She should just sit around and abide her husband calling her a whore? The husband brought along the student. Suddenly, because she wears the garments she brought along for the trip, she becomes a whore? Poor, clouded judgment on the husband's part. She merely fulfilled his paranoid censure. Think before you post.

What is wrong with people like you that try to justify cheating? What she did was much worse than anything he did to her. He said something out of anger to her when he was panicking about the kid dying. Because of that, she can throw away their marital vows and have sex with a stranger who she knows is no better than her husband if not worse? It's not surprising to see Polanski make this kind of statement given his own questionable morals. It has nothing to do with being American, but just basic right and wrong.

Use your imagination. Perhaps she already caught Andrzej cheating in the past? Perhaps he even admitted to it to her out of guilt, and so she felt like this was her chance to even things out? Just like the ending is ambiguous, and we don't know if Andrzej lives with the supposed murder on his conscience, or if he goes to the police, and ruins his political career, the married couple's pre-story is just as ambiguous. This sort of film deserves credit for not holding your hand, and letting you "choose your own adventure" of sorts to justify the characters' actions. I wish more movies were like this, and not so catered to infantile minds, worried that the audience won't get it, or can't think outside the box enough to "figure it out"

No, he's the whore. Old ugly guy who acts like an *beep* picks up a young hot guy and tries to humiliate him and play games. Naturally the young hot wife will like the young hot guy who doesn't act like a total dick.
