Why Such a Good Film

First of all,what a stellar cast.Bronson,Gig,Lola,etc.Too,the location is memorable with rugged woods and terrain.Soundtrack is above average.Story is simple but we get to see El box !Lovely gals,vicious thugs and sappy sentimentality but,hey,its '62 and that is what you got.I think Bronson is fun to watch and Gig is quite amusing.

I don't think this version of Kid Galahad is a great movie, but there's much to like, particularly what you've mentioned regarding the cast, location filming and not to mention the terrific song, King of the Whole Wide World. The combination of musical interludes and drama doesn't work particularly well, in my opinion, but I've seen worse and think Elvis acquitted himself fairly well throughout.

Gotta be one of Presley's better efforts;

lots of visuals to go 'round and eye candy such as Lola Alright !

It definitely ranks with Elvis' top 5-7 films. The dramatic story is compelling and the rustic lodge setting is great (shot in Idyllwild, California), not to mention the main characters are believable and there's a sense of warmth amongst them despite conflicts. It helps that it's not a dull zany farce like "Kissin' Cousins."
