Has it occurred to anyone else how many many Martian probes, both US and Russian, have failed shortly after reaching Mars? This is especially strange, given the harsh conditions experienced by other interplanetary and intergallactic probes.
shareI am reminded of the Martian Chronicles where they mentioned that if the probe had of landed only a few miles away it would have discovered a lot more.
It sucks to be me for so many reasons
Only 1/3 of US probes to Mars have succeeded. A cautionary tale concerning our current state of preparation for exploration beyond low earth orbit. Ironically, the US rate of success of deep space probes to Jupiter and beyond is much higher than our attempts at Mars. Eerie?
share14 years later, and we have three rovers on Mars that exceeded their life expectancy. Several countries now exploring Moon & Mars.
