This one - but both are unhistoric. But The 300 Spartans is more realistic, less idiotic. Both are full of false Heroism. But at the end the 1962 movie is one of the best Sword and sandal feature.

It's hard to say which is better, but I thought the 300 spartans was boring and looked very much dated. As for 300, it was over-the-top and silly but fun. I think only The History channel (or is it Nat Geo, Discovery?) had a 2 hour docu-drama about the 300 spartans was probably the best of all, in that it was the most accurate.

This old movie is actually most enjoyable for the costumes, the story gets a bit silly sometimes because it is outdated, but especially the Persians are depicted quite realistically. Even in the Alexander movie I don't think the Persian cavalry looked as realistic as in this movie. As much as I think "300" is bad on itself, I do prefer it to this one as the pace is simply too slow for today.

Atleast you think '300' is bad. However, I think films are needlessly fast today. You get no plot development and character development.

I have to say that with the 300 Spartans film being made around 1962 the producers were making a movie where the supposed "good guys", i.e the West, lost. I'd think that was a bit of a different way to go with film plots back then since we had those Italian directors in their sword and sandal epics extolling the virtue of Roman armies defeating those "barbarians" etc. They won all the time I think...and they didn't have Hercules...;-)...

I would prefer the 300 over 300, in 300 there is supernatural soldiers, and the giant monster etc, everything is way over the top.
the 300 is more down to earth, but is really dated 1962 !
Be better if if someone would make a realistic modern version.

It would have been neat to see how George Clooney's intended film version of Gates of Fire turned out, which would have been done in a more grounded/gritty Saving Private Ryan sort of take. Too bad it didn't happen, at least not yet seeing as he technically still owns the rights. I actually don't dislike Snyder's 300 and enjoy it for what it is, but it would be neat to be able to see that other take on the story/event.
