We Can't Have Flying Cars. They'd Be Used as Missiles

Also, think of the accidents. What would now be a minor fender-bender could result in two vehicles immediately plummeting to Earth, killing people!

I've always said the reason we don't have flying cars has nothing to do with the technology. It's due to the lack of maturity in our society. Would you truly want these things flying above your house when:
• There are people who would be too lazy to refuel/recharge/maintain the vehicle? They would run out of power and come crashing down.
• There is distracted driving? Distracted flying would have so many more consequences.
• There are people who don't obey simple traffic laws? There would still be speeders and other impatient types who would attempt to take shortcuts by entering no-fly or no-landing zones.
• Road rage exists? "Sky rage" would be far more dangerous if you had two drivers going at one another above a residential area.

When The Jetsons was conceived the Space Race was in full operation, and there were great advances in technology within a short period of time. The 21st Century was viewed with optimism. There was the idea that progress would continue to be made.

Here we are now, a couple of decades into this Century, and it's become obvious how far off those predictions were. Society is regressing rather than moving forward.
