He's an American whose name was Michael Ansara.

Actually Michael Ansara was born in Syria and immigrated here as a child with his parents. In the film he's called "Alvarez" but that doesn't make him a "Mexican", except I suppose to Trump supporters and the OP.

reply

His first name is Miguel and his last name is Alvarez. That doesn't make him Mexican, but it certainly makes him Hispanic.

Michael Ansara (who was married to Barbara Eden when this film was released and probably during all of the filming) often played characters from the Middle East, Hispanics, or Aboriginal Americans. He also played space aliens in "Lost in Space" and "Star Trek," as well as a naval officer with an Hispanic last name on the television series, "Voyage to the Bottom...etc.

It sucks to get typecast, but on the other hand he got steady work from the 50's through the rest of the century.
