The film would have sweeped the oscars today

I recently saw this film and thought it was phenomenal. I had to check which oscars it has been nominated for. Surely all the actors was nominated, and Claudia McNeil had without a doubt won best actress in 1961 for her staggering performance.

Well, no.

Not one academy award nomination. Today the whole cast would have been nominated, The director and film also. Can't help to think it must have been the times.
