The peerless Jean Arthur was offered Apple Annie and I wonder if Ms. Arthur had played Annie it would have been a bette movie. Capra and Ms. Arthur were magic together in the Capra Columbia movies.

I love Bette in this but Jean is a favorite and would've been just as good in a different manner. Would have loved to see Jean in the part.
