Question about the music

I seen the film 'Murder at the Gallop' today and it's main 'Ron Goodwin' theme has the same music as an instrumental piece called 'Murder She Said' by Eighties Pop band 'Fun boy Three', or rather the other way around. Is the main theme music the same in all of the films in this series.

reply

As far as I know yes. Ron Goodwyn composed the music for the character rather than the film (mutch like "monty normans" james bond theme.

Ron Goodwin wrote the whole score as well as the theme for Murder She Said. He did the same for the subsequent films, reworking the title theme each time. The title theme has been called "Miss Marple" when issued on record etc but it didn't originate independently of the first film.

I love Ron Goodwin. I've got a 45 of the theme to Kill Or Cure (also dir. by George Pollock). Wish they'd have that again.

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

I love the way Miss Marples Harpsichord Theme follows her through each feature

The harpsichord does definitely be a signature for Miss Marple herself in the series. There is a BBC Radio 3 episode of the 'Sound of Cinema' series devoted to the use of harpsichord in films. I want to listen to that, if I can find it, to see if Miss Marple gets a mention.
