Passing off Chuck as a Spaniard

It has been mentioned in some comments about the portrayals by Heston and Fraser as spaniards, to be a bit of a stretch. Gary Raymond on the other hand is a bit more plausible.

Without stirring a racial debate regarding eggplants...I can't help but be reminded of Dennis Hopper's suicidal diatribe from True Romance.

Were not people in parts of Southern Europe fairer in skin/hair at this period in history c1090, prior to the introduction of the Moorish gene-pool??

You do know that a lot of Spaniards are white, right? They ARE European, after all.

reply

You do know that the Castilian aristocracy of the Tenth Century were pretty much Visigothic ,ie German, in ethnic background, do you?
For the record, when I was in Spain on vacation I saw plenty of Blond Spaniards.

And I know a Spaniard that has natural red hair. Your point?

reply

More idiot Americans who automartically think "Mexican taco vendor" when the word Spanish is mentioned.

Do you realize that The Cid was of Visigothic descent? Yeah I'll bet you think black makeup and suicidal rock and roll when you hear the word "Goth."

reply

Well, this myth has been going on for way too long.
Spaniards are white! Go to Spain, whatever part you like and you will find that the majority of people are white.
They make up for 90% of the people.
Yes, you can find Spaniards that look like Heston(blonde with a big nose)

Which Americans?. . . North,Central,or South?.You would be surprised at how much Americans of any region know of European(actually world) history/anthropology.Were the *beep* do you think the majority of"Americans" came from in the first place!?.Tell me you are some 20-something who is filled with a vitriolic hatred and yet does not even have a valid reason why.If you want enemies, get to know them first.

I guess when people think of Spain they expect people to look like Mexicans. That is simply not the case. People in Spain are Europeans and tend to look similar to Southern Italians with some fair types hear and there. So Heston as a Spaniard is not a stretch at all. Also remember that prior to the Moorish invasion Spain was rulled by the Germanic Visigoths.

This clichéd racial stereotype belief regarding all Spaniards to be dark as Gypsies, with coal-black hair and coal-black eyes, always annoys me. I am a Spaniard with brown hair and grey-green eyes, and I have at least a couple of friends back home who are so blond and light-skinned that could pass for Swedes. There are a lot of blond Spaniards, and even red-haired and ginger, believe it or not. Our ancestors were not only Roman or Arabic but also Celtic, Visigoth, Germanic and Jewish.

reply

Yes, but the Jews (and Moors) were expelled from Spain in 1492.
So, in the successive centuries, their physical characteristics (whatever they may be) were not apparent on the general populace.

reply

You have the conversos and others that were muslims and jews that converted to catholicism to stay whose characteristics would have been passed down in spain.
