The End

Did Rosetta have sex with the man who bought her the scarf? She was clearly out all night with him, and her mom sure was acting like that's what happened. But I don't think it was entirely clear?

Thanks.

Florindo gave Rosetta silk stockings, not a scarf, and of course silk stockings were a common WWII metaphor for sex because that was the only way most women could get them. So yes, Rosetta had sex with him. She didn't feel it mattered anymore because, as her mother said, she was "worse than dead" after being raped. You could see it in her blank expression and monotone speech -- she just didn't care. It was only after she learned Michele had been killed that she snapped out of it and began grieving and caring about life again.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought the stockings might be only a bribe/grooming from him in hopes to continue contact and eventually have sex. First date IS pretty bad, but of course he was horrible taking advantage of so young a girl.
