AT LAST.....

Finally got my copy of the new, restored "LYAM" and really enjoy it...

HOWEVER......one thing that really suprised me is the fact that the titles/credits are gray/white....making them hard to read on tv!!!!!!!

Does anyone else think these opening titles are just plain ugly??

Looked fine on HDTV and Blu-ray. Matched the Criterion case.

Greetings,

I have not yet obtained the Criterion release thoughjust last night I was watching my Fox/Lorber pressing of the DVD and I realized how truly difficult the opening credits are to read.

In The British Film Institute series of books, the one "L,ANNEE DERIERE A MARIENBAD", text is in English, so worry not, the author, Jean-Louis Leuytat claims that the titles were purposefully made to be difficult to read. He also provides excellent insight into the differences between the film as realized by Resnais and as visualized by Robbe-Grillet. Robbe-Grillet had envisioned a far more intricate use of the title sequence.

Actually the entire BFI series is most excellent. As well as covering the moe "classic" films, their books on "Blade Runner" and "the Usual Suspects" are most interesting. These books are short, LYiM in only seventy-pages with bibliography and notes yet extremely concise and revealing. Based on the volumes I own I give the entire BFI series the highest possile recommendation.
