Worst western ever made

John Ford himself said he hated the movie and I can see why--Between Wiseman's non-stop diatribes and the filming of the absolute worst scenery in any western,I'm surprised that this pointless depressing film was even ever released--and I'm a big western fan

Since the OP doesn't even get the director's name right, his credibility falls to zero.

IT's not a classic---I have been watching western movies for seventy five years and this one is extremely well done revealing the time period with excellence---(REMEMBER THE OLD TIMER KNOWS BEST)---Audie murphy was the most decorated in World War Two and he was damn good!

I actually went to film school and focused on film analysis, so I know a thing or two about it. I never had to watch this film in school though and I'm stunned. I got stuck watching The Searchers which I thought was a god awful, cringeworthy mess with very few redeeming qualities. I'm stunned to see people actually comparing this fantastically well written, beautifully shot, and engaging film with that awful John Ford mess. It is essentially the same film as Red River, which is a far superior and better written movie than The Searchers. Max Steiner certainly writes a haunting score and there's some beautiful photography, but there's not much else there. I can see people being manipulated by the pretty photography into believing it's some type of masterpiece. Yeah right…lol

This on the other hand…I had no opinions of this film before going into it. I didn't know Huston was so frustrated with the film, so I'm stunned to see so much anger towards it. Personally I don't see why exactly, there are a few things that could have been edited for authenticity I suppose, but that's always the case.

The screenplay is excellent, I was surprised at how well written it was for its time period. What are you people smoking?

Oh and I hated the Wild Bunch, Sam Peckinpaw's films were rarely ever good, the screenplays are often always sht!

Who gives a sht about realistic special effects? I'm a chick, I don't care if the blood in a shootout scene looks real. I want a well written screenplay and character development, a plot also helps to engage me in the film. Tell what *beep* plot does The Wild Bunch Have? If you think about it, it basically just rips that off from other films. It even rips off the score from The Big Country (another far superior and more entertaining film). To make a film realistic you need a lot more than a large body count and lots of blood. For *beep*'s sake we've all been ruined by the auteur movement in the 70s. We actually believe today that you can't have a brilliant film unless it "looks realistic" whatever that means...

I'll add this only because the post was already at the top. Why do people feed these "worst..... movie..... ever....." trolls?
Otherwise, I refuse to comment when these losers post so as to not raise the post to first viewed status.

Really? Can't even get the director's name correct? FORD?

So much to recommend this film.
-Beautifully shot.
-Murphy's portrayal of the excessively dark Cash is a bit unsettling though not so much as the character in the book.
-The tragic human breakdown that is the Mother's fate is a MONSTER role for Gish and sad but gripping to watch.
-The play that giant actions can be set in motion decades later based upon a previous bad decision and current madness is compelling and worthy of its own discussions.
-When viewed with an eye towards the writer's own; "The Searchers" it becomes even more significant than if merely viewed alone/
-The insight (recognizing it as a work of fiction) into what it might actually have been like to stake a life out upon the prairie in the early days before law and cinema's inevitable last-minute cavalry rescue. They were on their own and when they broke the bonds with the only possible aid around, the desperation and sense of doom was palpable.

Soo much more, but of course, I'm feeding the troll!
