That is the 2002 version. The 1960 did not have such a plot. There was a TV movie version made around 1978 though.

i was just blown away be the radio dramatization of this, there were some extended parts i don't remember from the movie version, at first i thought he went too far too fast and stuck at one time instead of travelling back and forth like the "back to the future" movies, the setting in this is more like the twilight zone episode "back there" and as he talks about over the hill i'm reminded of the episode "a hundred yards over the rim", he didn't have the model doll as in the 1960 movie, only hearing stone tables made me think of a flintstones setting, the lose interest comment felt like the current issue, since he was all the time thinking back on his journey, you knew the machine would be safe, but overall i liked the sum up, spoiler, like made for a sequel, during these adventures i just thought he should put some wheels on that thing like in back to the future, those movies was more about heading to the past while this is solely about the future, speaking as someone looking at these movies neither of them at the cinema but as rerun on tv, i have to say the 1960 movie is almost more awesome considering the time span he's travelling in, while the back to the future revolves around a few decades (the furthest future date was passed a few years ago) or the old west, still back to the future is impossible to diss, but "the time machine", and especially the radio version, boggles your mind. anyone who's a fan and get by on english should really listen to it, released in 2017 from big finish productions on a double cd.
