Spielberg Lived In Phoenix the Year that Psycho Came Out

March 2021: Steven Spielberg has announced that he is going to write and direct a tale of his childhood in Phoenix, Arizona. Evidently, he lived there with his parents and sisters in 1960, before his scientist father moved the entire family to California.

I wonder: what did Spielberg think as he watched that bleak opening camera sweep(second unit), over his home city of Phoenix in Psycho? Was he tickled to see Hitchcock launching such a terrifying adventure from "his home town?" --- And where oh where -- given that downtown cityscape ....were the burbs were Spielberg lived and made his first films? To the left of the Sam Marion hotel? To the right? Past the distant desert range?

Spielberg once spoke of seeing the 1960 Irwin Allen lizard dinosaur movie The Lost World at a Phoenix theater. He and his nerdly friends "barfed" soup from the balconies onto the floor near other kids. Spielberg was that kind of geek. Perhaps Psycho just didn't fit his psyche, yet...

Still. Think about it. Spielberg sits in a theater in Phoenix, Arizona and gets that same bug that millions would get ...from a great director who came before him.

His own kind kind of geek...
