OT: As we head into awards season...

The best youtuber using Awards history as a lens through which to study film is a gal from NYC who uses the channel name 'Be Kind Rewind'. Her latest vid. is a superbly researched study of how the Biopic has grown in importance for the Academy Awards with Sissy Spacek's Best Actress win for Coal Miner's Daughter as the big turning point:

BKR has gradually become more quantitative, which won't be to everyone's taste, but she still does a lot of straight history. Personally, I find her graphs well-designed & instructive. Recommended.

I'll take a look at that. I haven't yet, but it sure does seem clear that biopics have been a big winner over the years at the Oscars. And yet, weirdly, for every one that "clicks" (Ray, The Queen, Streep's Margaret Thatcher movie) you get one that doesn't(Kevin Spacey's Bobby Darin biopic, Nicole Kidman's Grace Kelly biopic.)

Not to mention: "Hitchcock," the Hitchcock/Psycho buff's very own half homage/half desecration of a man, his wife, and their work.

I see we have Renee Zellwegger doing "Judy" this year; we'll see if she goes all the way.
