he was all wrong for this movie
he and Doris Day had no chemistry

I love David Niven, but I don't exactly think of him as a romantic leading man, or even a husband type.

Completely agree.
Worst on screen father ever too! Barely acknowledges them. D
Doros day however is fantastic in this, as is the dog 'Hobo'.

Niven was very good in this movie. Excellent casting.
