Interesting how in the book, the nurse falls for the sargeant not Capn' Anson.
But they changed it round when they made the film.

Wonder why?

Captain Anson was a hopeless drunk. Sylvia must have been very desperate if she couldn't wait to get to Alex where there would be plenty of better men. Even Captain van der Poel was of better stock than Anson.

The love scene ruined a great film. Certainly it was obvious that the sergeant was the one for fall for. He treated her like a gentleman throughout whereas Anson was just a drunken bully.

there is a peciking order in films. the star gets the girl.
