It's an amazing movie... I wouldn't call it the best... I gave it a ten but still that's not the only ten I've given...

I'm a kubrick fan so for me it's 2001...
maybe not the best movie ever made but I think the most important movie ever made. changed the course of Cinema, in technique, in use of music, narrative structure...

It's an amazing movie... but I wouldn't say it's the greatest. I personally don't have a "favourite film of all time," but I know a number of films that I could live on a desert island with.

Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal," Kubrick's "2001" and Woody Allen's "Manhattan" would probably be on that list, among Fellini's "La Dolce Vita."

While no doubt a masterpiece and one of the greatest films of all time, La Dolce Vita pails in comparison to 8 1/2. That film is Fellini's real masterpiece.

I'm Sorry but you have it twisted... 8 1/2 pails in comparison to La Dolce Vita. 8 1/2 is Fellini's most commercial film and way more basic and easy to understand then LDV that doesn't make it better. la Dolce is far deeper and way more edgy/groundbreaking. It's hard to absorb all of it's brilliance in one viewing. And La Dolce Vita is definitely not a 9 outta 10... It's arguably the greatest film ever made.

Its a great film, but I didn't notice anything particularly profound about it, it seemed to be a fairly simple story told exceptionally well. Whereas 8 1/2 is one of the most intellectually rewarding films of all time.

Ah well, we can just agree to disagree.

Agreed, but compared to 8 1/2 La Dolce Vita lacks a lot of the subtleties and nuances in plot. Neither one can be called anything short of the very essence of character driven cinema, but I think that there is a lot more to 8 1/2 then to any of Fellini's other films (or at least the one's I've seen).

i don't know how you'd establish what film was the "greatest ever made", but this one certainly qualifies as one of the greatest...
with one of the best endings, too.

There's not doubt it's terrific.

I don't think there's any one "Greatest" film ever. Although, If I had to pick 10 favorites La Dolce Vita would probably be one of them (Along with 8 1/2).

It's all subjective at the end of the day. That said, "La Dolce Vita" is unarguably ONE of the greatest ever made.

LOL, just look at the ratings TV shows like Dexter and Game of Thrones get.

You have to accept that most people have poor taste and short attention spans.

This is one of those movies that if someone doesn't like it, I'm not interested in talking about movies with them.

IMHO La Dolce Vita is a great movie, but it is not for everyone and that does not mean that those "that don't get it" are somehow deficient. LDV is as different to those TV series you mentioned as chalk from cheese. There's no point comparing a film to a TV series, they are not the same. People don't compare films to TV series, and IMDB's top 250 does not include TV series.

Incidentally, the Game of Thrones is based on the best fantasy book series I have ever read, A Song of Ice and Fire. As for the TV series, well that's a different medium and will be judged by other criteria. Obviously, the series has proved very popular and at the very least has introduced many new readers to the delights of A Song of Ice and Fire books.
