Did they bleach Chip's hair in the first few seasons?

It looks terrible but I think it's a bad bleach job. I don't think the child actor actually had blonde hair. His brother, when he joined the show, had brown hair.

I don't think so. One of my good friends was blond as a young child, but by the time he hit puberty, his hair had darkened.

It was bleached in season 2 and less lighter in season 1 but IMO still lightened to a degree.. By season 3 he was back to brown hair.

Recently I purchased season 2 of the Lucy Show in which Stanley Livingstone was a guest in a couple of the episodes. That DVD included an interview with Stanley from 2010 in it's special features segment. He discusses his appearances on The Lucy Show and talks about My Three Sons. He happened to mention that difference in appearance between him and his brother Barry and confirms that Barry was naturally blonde.

He was very blonde years before on "Ozzie and Harriet" and in his movie appearances so I think it was natural.

In the pilot when Chip was 9 it was a lighter brown. There is no way the kid's hair was not lightened in the first 2 seasons.

I think his hair was dyed so he resembled Don Grady/Robbie.
