Spoiler- What happened to Jabe Torrance?

Not that it's really essential to the story, but I just wondered whether the evil Mr Torrance survived his own act of arson. And did anyone take notice of how the responders to the fire charged up the stairs, totally ignorning Lady Torrance as if she wasn't even there? Interesting. But then it's consistent with how the town's men seemed to never acknowledge this *beep* bootlegger's daughter", confirming that she was an outsider in a small insular southern town.
