What's up with Jan's voice (outdoor scenes)

I noticed that Jan's voice in the outdoor scenes in the beginning of the film sound completely different from the way it sounded in the indoor scenes (before she was decapitated). Can anyone please explain this oddity?

reply

Her voice in the car was looped in after the filming. It wasn't recorded at the same time that it was filmed, for whatever reason.

Anyway, that is my guess.

You sure it was Virgina Leith's voice and not someone else's voice? Because it looked to me like her voice was dubbed by someone else just for the outdoor scenes.

Then again, we all sound different, depending on whether where outdoors or indoors at the moment.

It was NOT Leith's voice. Due to the noise level of shooting out in a
moving car, both actors had to "loop" their lines. Apparently, Herb
Evers returned to do this, but Leith did not (gee, can anyone blame her?).
And it's not just in the car scene. Leith is dubbed in the opening
surgery scene when discussing the pulse ("Strong and steady"). And in
some dialogue near the end when Evers is about to operate on Delores ("Bill,
you caaaaan't"). Also, most of the laughter and the "Let me die" lines
are dubbed by someone else. I believe there's even a credit for it.
Something like "additional dialogue: Doris Brent."

Yes, well said. You can tell the difference between the OR nurse's voice in her initial comments and the "Strong and steady" line. The nurse who tells Cortner about the phone call from Curt is Doris Brent, who intones the "Strong and steady" line. Her accent stands out clearly from those of the other players.

But it's not the nurse who came in and dubbed Leith's later lines ("Why
haven't you taken me up here before?"; the head laughing;, etc.).

reply

I guess one could say that the head in TBTWD had schizophrenia. It would explain all of those different voices.

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!

reply

According to IMDb Trivia section some of her lines were dubbed by Doris Brent who played a nurse in the film. This was because Virginia Leith hated this movie so much that she refused to go back to it for the post-production stage.
