anyone else think cinzia looked older than 22?

If I recall correctly, at the start of the film it mentions briefly that cinzia (sophia loren) is supposed to be 22 years old.
Looking at the posts already here, i think others would agree that i don't think sophia looked her prettiest in this film - her suntan made her look older!

I think they could have made her character older and that way the gap between her and Cary would not seem so large and she would be more of a motherly figure to his children.

In real life Sophia Loren was 23 when this movie was made, so even if she looked older than 22 she wasn't older by much.

Sophia Loren probably looked older than her actual age ever since she was still a teenager. She exudes maturity. It's probably because she had to grow up fast. As a girl she experienced war up close and personal then she probably developed her shapely figure at puberty.

As soon as most girls start to develop physically, the creepy men come out of the woodwork; making inappropriate comments and ogling them incessantly. It can be quite overwhelming. Some girls can handle the attention; they may even play up their sexuality, which makes them seem older than their years. The ones who are a bit more shy carry themselves differently, with less confidence, so they're perceived as younger than they are and, of course, the ones that are slow to grow or who are shaped like boys often seem younger because they lack the curves.

Cinzia was a young girl living with her father. She couldn't be that much older or it wouldn't be believable that she's still so much under his control. It would be reasonable that she lives with him but she would be working, since they weren't wealthy, and used to more independence than she had.

Tom had to be an older man for several reasons. First, he had been married and had three kids. The kids had to be old enough to be able to have as much input as they did but young enough to need a caretaker. Teens could have similar issues but they wouldn't have needed someone to stay with them. By the way, age does not make someone more nurturing. Teenager are known to babysit; some do it rather well.

Given his persona, Tom was probably late to marry. It's hard to imagine him being a very young groom. Carolyn said she was in love with him since she was four but he was probably a teenager at the time. Otherwise, it's hard to imagine her sister beating her to the punch for any other reason than she was too young at the time. She's been married long enough for her marriage to have dulled so all the ages seem appropriate to me.

Besides, given the fact Sophia and Cary actually had an affair in real life not long before this movie was made, their ages on screen don't matter.
