Who Thought That Paul Peterson ('Jeff')...

stole the show?!? I did! He is so funny and cute, I LOVE him when he's 12/13! (He's a pretty handsome guy now too, in his 60s:-)

I just watched season one and thought "Jeff" was hysterical. His comedy came across so natural that I wonder if he ever ad libbed even at that young age. It was so great to watch him grow up over the seasons. I can't wait for season 2. And yes - he is still a hunk today!

I know, Spike, I am sooooo psyched for Season 2, too!!

I agree with everyone on this post. He does have the best lines and he acts like a "real" boy of that age: he's very loud and rambunctious, pesters his sister at every opportunity, and is always, always eating!! I always thought his was the most realistic of the other male counterparts on the other '50s shows (plus I'm very partial to "TDRS" anyhoo :)), even though several of those had their own merits. He also had a very angelic face and was smaller than average, so he was able to pull off the age thing, since he was 13 when the show started, but Jeff was supposed to be around 11-ish.

I remember reading that Donna Reed herself said "he was an absolute joy to play a scene with."

P.S. I am also really looking forward to Season 2. Has anyone heard anything? I know the insert said it would be out in time for Mother's Day this year, but I wonder when it's available for pre-order.

I totally agree, Paul Peterson was wonderful in the show.

I have watched season 1 and watching season 2 from Netflix.

He was all boy too very loud and a real little brother too.

I didn't know he was older than 11 in the first season.

He does act very natural though which is fun to see. Leaning on things & playing around with stuff while talking. A total boy.

Adorable.

OMG - ITA with you guys about that too! He WAS such a natural "boy," as he was always eating (God, I literally crack up when he would stuff his pockets with 3 pieces of fruit and a sandwich, right before dinner, LOL) pestering his sister, clammoring around the house and breaking things, etc. As much as I enjoyed Jerry Mathers and other contemporary pre-teen/teen boy actors/characters of that time period, Paul was the best, IMO!! And that's so cool that Donna said that he was a joy to work with :)

I recently started watching the first season on Hulu about halfway though the season and right away from the start I just adored him. He is like everyone else says, very realistic, genuine, believable as a boy of that age and also very smart and insightful. I have enjoyed watching him. His arguments with Mary are very believable. He does steal the scenes he is in and totally comes across as the son of Donna and Alex. Not many child actors come across as realistic as Paul Peterson does. He was an exceptional talent.

I'm watching the series -- on MeTV -- for the first time in ages. As a kid, I always thought Paul Peterson was very cute, but now I'm appreciating his talents as well. He did a terrific job as Jeff!

I've started watching this show after not having seen it for many years, and I love Jeff as much as I did 50 years ago! He's so natural, and sweet in that boyish way. He really looks as though he could be the son of Reed and Betz as well. As cute as Shelley Fabares was, I feel she was really eclipsed by this charming boy! Be still my aging heart.

Seems like Paul got all favorable reviews. He not only had the best lines but his delivery was brilliant. I used to watch the show way way back but I forgot just how funny he could be. He really could steal the scene and wonder how Shelley liked that. I really love the exchanges between Jeff and his dad. That was great writing.

Nearly every show back then had a memorable breakout star. Jeff was definitely the star of The Donna Reed Show. The funniest episodes revolved around Jeff. My favorite episodes are the later ones where Jeff is older and is friends with Smitty.

I agree that Jeff steals the show. My favorites are him arguing with Mary because it seems so natural. His running through the house starved and making a mess is very natural and real too.
