The scenes of viewing Japanese performances seemed to drag on and on. They took away from the movie.
Overall - lots of flaws mixed into a decent idea of a story. Worth viewing once but a disappointment if you expect a great movie

I agree with you about the runtime. I've seen other dated, overlong movies that were more intolerably long, but during Sayonara, I kept thinking they were just wasting time. Filling time that didn't need to be filled. I liked the Japanese performances, plus they were there to show us culture and show off the big production budget. But they could have trimmed most of his scenes with his American girlfriend.
shareGood movie, appropriate running length, nothing wasted, performance scenes were spectacular. Not a thing should be changed.
