Brando's southern accent was dead on in this picture. Even the phrases such as "tickled to death" were entirely appropriate for a thick southern accent like his. And I don't understand why some think that his West Point education would have diminished the accent. It takes more than 4 years to undo a lifetime habit unless you are trying to change the way you speak.
shareit makes sense that it would be i think hes originally from the south so he would have had a lot of exposure to it, since childhood. he did a great job with the southern accent.
shareHe was from Omaha Nebraska, seems most roles he played he had an affected accent, that's when he wasn't mumbling.
shareI just finished reading the novel, and there is no indication that Gruver has an accent. Brando just decided to do it that way.
