When Did You First See 'Old Yeller'?

Simple question: When and where did you first see this film? It seems that after so many years "Old Yeller" still manages to draw an audience. Many new generations of fans. I can assume that many older folks saw it first in the theater, but many others since then have seen it in other ways. Where and when did you see it? TV? Video? Other?

I first saw "Old Yeller" when I was 9 years old in the late 70's on an Eastern Airlines flight to Orlando Florida. The airline was at that time the "official airline of WDW" and on flights to Orlando they would show Disney films.

Some time later I saw the movie on "Wonderful World of Disney" and finally on VHS and DVD.

Just curious as to where you first saw this movie.

I saw it on TV whenI was about 6 years old, so that would make it about 1965.

It must have been re-released in theaters in the early 90's, because it was my first "theater" movie!!

It was in the 70's so that would make me under 10 years old. Don't remember exactly. Loved it. That's the only time I saw it. I still have that childish memory of it and I'm afraid that if I see it now the magic of how I felt may be lost.

I first saw it when I was about five years old. My mom taped it when it was on The Wonderful World of Disney.

I saw Old Yeller when it first came out. I was seven years old and it was the first movie I ever saw, and an interesting day! My father was in the hospital, and my mother was trying to earn a living, so I was home alone on a Saturday (there were latchkey kids back then too!). I went to Joey Norton, my best friend's house, and they were about to go to some kid's birthday party. I didn't know the family giving the party, but they didn't have much choice but to bring me along. I remember being in the car, wondering where I was going. The whole party later went in to Mill Valley, to the Sequoia Theatre to see Old Yeller. We didn't even have a TV, though I had seen one once or twice at a neighbor's. And I don't think I even knew what a movie was. So it was quite an experience, in an odd dark room full of strangers, seeing these huge colored pictures on the screen, moving and with voices coming from somewhere! For a young boy, it was almost like an hallucination - I wonder if that is what Walt Disney intended!!

1969, before video, when Disney re-released their classics in theatres, during summer vacation at the State Theater in Traverse City Michigan. I was 7 years old, and yes, I cried when the mutt died.

The first time I saw it was in late May, 1976 in our elementary school auditorium when I was at the end of second grade. It was shown on a projector as in a theater for the whole school (grades 1 through 6). It was before field day activities, and I was hesitant to go that day, because I felt the movie would be upsetting and just did not want to see it. But my mother (who was also the fifth grade teacher there) convinced me to go, saying I did not want to miss a good movie, and then activities. I did go and saw it all, and did think it was good, though upsetting and sad as well. I'm not sure if I ever saw it again, though may on DVD if I get the chance (next year will be its 50th anniversary, that'd be a great time to).
