Jo Stockton? C'mon!

My favorite character the Hep ever played! freakin adorable!

as a side note: Anyone else think she looks better before she gets made over? That geeky little jumper was spot-on!

totally right on there!!!

but i can't resist watching before-and-afters involving audrey hepburn!

reply

i adore this movie, but i always find it so funny how audrey was supposed to play the "homey" librarian at first, and i always laugh because audrey couldn't be "homey" on her worst day.

reply

Lol, downwiththemuffinman I agree with you so much.
Audrey Hepburn could not play the "homey" librarian at all.
If anything she was more beautiful than the other girls.

My thoughts exactly. Did anyone really buy for a minute that Audrey was a frumpy bookstore clerk? If that's how all librarians looked, we'd never have to worry about illiteracy!

Yes, she made that potato sack she was wearing look stylish!

"I promise you, before I die I'll surely come to your doorstep"

reply

yes, that grey tunic she was wearing (or potato sack) is actually kind of in fashion now.

I loved the little jumper too. The first gown she appears in...the pink top with the white bottom...I hate it. I love the black Turtle neck and hip huggers she wears in the cafe though.

She looked sooooo adorable

Oh don't be ridiculous, Andrea. Everybody wants this. Everybody wants to be us.

reply

Yes! She looked great in everything.

No. Naturally she looked good but that outfit she wore to the cafe looked horrible on her and made her look almost boyish. Besides, I love the red dress too much.

I try to be like Grace Kelly, but all her looks were too

reply

I think the point of her sort of not being able to pull off a homey librarian was that there was the potential there to see someone with a "Funny Face" that can be dressed up and photographed at nice looking locations.
Kind of like an ugly duckling, but beautiful with a middle class citizens dress sense.

reply

Or the point was that true beauty flirts with ugliness. Audrey Hepburn was breathtaking, especially in this film, but she wasn't considered a flawless beauty at the time - her face wasn't perfectly symmetrical.

Kay Thompson on the other hand DID have a 'funny face', and a quirky look offset by great fashion sense. I thought AH & KT were brilliant in this.

reply

Point was surely that Jo didn't think of herself as good looking. I
take the universal view of Miss Hepburn's looks and I believe that her personality was even nicer!

reply

Absolutely. I dislike overly made-up women and of course the "fashions" were ridiculous.

reply

It's "homely".
