Any one else affected by this film when younger

Ive been a lifelong fan of horror films, and when i was young i was lucky to be allowed to watch any that appeared on TV( long before videos or dvds).
When i was young, some films scared me, but this is the only film that affected me for months after i first saw it.
When i was about 7, this film really gave me the creeps.
While i was never afraid of the dark, after seeing this film, i was terrified of going up the stairs in my house unless the lights were on. The turn at the top of the stairs held the unseen fiends when it was in darkness.

I saw it when it came out in 1958 at the old RKO Orpheum Theatre (destroyed by fire in the mid 80s) in Champaign, IL. I've forgotten most of it, but have never forgot:

1. Initially they were invisible;
2. When one of them entered a house by tearing a hole in a screen door;
3. That when they became visible they looked like brains with some sort of pointed tale on them that was used to kill with.

I haven't seen it since '58, but if I remember this much it must have scared the crap out of me. I know it did my sister. All my brother and I had to do was creep up the stairs going "BOOMP! SHREEK!" and she'd scream at us to stop it!

Do you hate me because I have no avatar? Do you even give a damn?

this movie would show up randomly on the few channels that were available before cable..it would instantly grab me and I knew my afternoon was over..I think its a very novel well told story with all its flaws..it is good enough for criterion to release it..and i own a copy.

Definitely! Thanks for the post. Saw this film on TV various times when I was a kid in the 60's. Like other posters have stated, the brain-spinalchord creatures stick with you! I used to have dreams where I fought these things like in the movie.
