Curse of Frankenstein is truly an amazing movie, and all the performers (Urquhart, Cushing, Lee) were outstanding in their roles. The direction is very good, while the screenplay is magnificent.

But the Frankenstein award goes to James Whale for his wonderful Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein for Universal. Beautiful dialogue, equally amazing performances (especially Karloff), perfect cinematography, humor, drama...and in those movies the Creature is prortayed as innocent and symphathetic, not a dull and dumb killing machine as it is portrayed in almost every adaptation of the novel.

But still, I like Curse of Frankenstein, definately one of the best adaptations of the book.

I like this one a lot and still enjoy watching my old home video VHS by Warner Brothers even with the DVD being available. I like the atmosphere and claustrophobia, and I especially like the Creature makeup which makes the monster look like a bunch of corpses that have been cut up and stitched together.

I don't know if it's the bets Frankenstein movie ever though, I like FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY and remember it really scaring me to pieces as a kid, where this one was more kind of morbidly fascinating. It's my favorite of the Hammer Frankenstein movies at any rate. Cheers!

Not the best, at least 4 Universal Classics have it beat but definately a classic in its' own right. Those, grandiose period sets, the pairing of the legendary Lee & Cushing...the unexpected gore and a solid backstory intoducing "Paul" & "Elizabeth" into the young, obsessed "Victors" life...it all works fine.

Nah the 4 first in the 30-40's series are better. Still a pretty good film though but not too well made.

I agree with Gloede, Hammer Frankensteins have nothing on the Universial frankenstein flicks.. I still love Hammer films though

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

Young Frankenstein is the best Frank movie ever, with this one a close second ;)

Sure its true that one is one of the most interesting one of most adaption but i do not think best one ever, nor is it the best Hammer Frankenstein,
Frankenstein must be Destroyed is the of all the Hammer series but that's just my opinion.

With Frankenstein a deluded mad scientist and his monster an inhuman killing machine, CURSE it ironically closer to the original conception of Frankenstein that Universal wanted when Robert Florey was slated to direct and Bela Lugosi contracted to star. James Whale deepened the characterisation of Frankenstein and his creation.
