this was actually the first time i saw this movie that you hear referenced to all the time, i've come to understand there is also a remake made in... 1984. it reminded of the twilight zone episode "the obsolete man", and has this twilight zone actor, donald pleasence who had an unexpected small part considering the opening credits, i had no idea this was his first role until i read it here, it don't seem that early, or perhaps it's because i'm used to seeing him in make up playing a much older man in the twilight zone episode "the changing of the guard", extraordinary made just a few years after this debut i guess, well i've always liked pleasence, teamed up with other great out of current spotlight actors in many horrible horror movies. good thing this had subtitles to my own language because the sound (and picture) quality on the version i got was awful, some great dialogue, like the "they are afraid of love" bit, what an incredibly uncomfortable but also captivating movie, how he was tricked into trusting people and how they found out what his greatest fear was to use it against him later on, that scene close the end was really powerful, just imagine your own fear instead of his, both the rat scene and room seemed a bit much earlier and later on obvious to help the story go along, warning, major spoiler follows next here... you were really hoping for a happy ending.

a sun in face hit by your outfits,

rolls points on score board,
and i cant quit,
as youre the one who bring it.
