This was just on TCM!

They're playing all three Sissi movies tonight on TCM and they're such a treat to watch. The color photography is just beautiful and Romy Schnieder is exquisite to look at. My German friend told me that after WWII, Germany wanted these type of diversionary tales to escape into. They work! They're completely fantastical but so much fun to watch. As an American, I had never heard of Sissi until I visited Vienna where one can buy about a million different tchotchkes with her image on it. I think it's sort of a Princess Di type of cult there since she also met a tragic end. 7/10
