Is it time for a remake?

Or an updated version? How about a role reversal? Like say for example instead of a married man how about a married woman cheating or just thinking about it? So maybe a remake should be about a husband goes on a vacation with his kids ( boy and girl) and leaves his wokaholic, motivated career-woman wife at home so she work, so to get the stress off she has an affiar with a new handsome neighbour ( or only fantasizes about it) I think Marisa Tomei ,Julia Roberts or Kristin Davis would be perfect for the married woman, but who do we get for the handsome neighbour. Also he would have to be much younger than the woman. So what are your thoughts?

Possibly it would be a gross-out remake, with scatological terms, much the same way as Animal House or The Hangover. A possible remake of The Seven Year Itch would be mostly a gross-out comedy than a screwball comedy. This would be an update from the 1950s screwball humor to today's gross-out humor. I prefer Ben Stiller or possibly John Cusack playing Tom Ewell's role. Or for the Marilyn Monroe's role I suggest Paige Howard, Emma Stone, Alyson Michalka, or Selena Gómez.

Thanks for your input , I'm sorry I'm not familiar with Paige Howard or Alyson Michalka, but as for Selena Gomez or Emma Stone I would suggest someon a bit older, '
Also What do you think of the Idea of a gender role reversla idea I mentioned

I wouldn't be interested in a remake of the same movie - but a gender reversal like you mentioned I think could be really interesting! I'd actually like to see Kristen Davis in a role like that. I think it could be very good, if done properly.

Kristen Davis I never thought of her great idea! Thanks we would still need to get a male lead for the Monroe part it would have to be an actor that women think is the handsomest in Hollywood and Kristen Davis is in her 40's it would have to be an acftor in his 20's,, any ideas??
thanks for your input

Another thought would be Marisa Tomei for the lead in a gender role reversal

The "role-reversal" idea wouldn't work because (at least in the American and European cultures) there isn't much of an equivalent for the "male gaze." Women don't like to ogle men as much as vice-versa. What possible masculine counterpart could be found for the "subway grate" scene that wasn't disgusting or just pointless?

Besides, we don't really need a remake because the basic themes and plot points of this movie have already been updated for the 1970s (10), the '80s (THE WOMAN IN RED), and the '90s (AMERICAN BEAUTY). There was even an episode of THE SIMPSONS (1993's "The Last Temptation of Homer") that followed the plot of THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH pretty slavishly.

Yes they do, they are just more discreet about it... Anyway you mentioned what counterpart could be found for the "subway grate" scene? Well I've seen several movie that involve a female lead character watching the male lead remove his shirt or get undressed Lindsey Lohan in Just My Luck is one example..

I still think a remake should be off the table. As great as this movie is, it's still just as clichéd as SOME LIKE IT HOT. (It's not that clichés aren't funny, but they should be performed in cartoons and sketch-comedy shows, not in movies, unless you're making an overt spoof movie.) I don't know if this was true in 1955, but when you watch THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH nowadays you can practically see all the jokes coming.

LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003) follows the same plot as for THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. Even PRETTY WOMAN updated the basic themes found in ITCH but the case was a prostitute not a model.

The thing about humor nowadays is that it is all in your face humor. There's no subtlety in it, which is why I liked this movie. Did anybody catch the clever innuendos?

When the wire that MM was carrying is traveling across her hips and gets caught in the door, she says "My fan is caught in the door"? Today, the only way most people would get it is by having a chick get her ass caught in the door and saying, blatantly, "My ass is caught in the door".

Or when Sherman is bending down and getting his milk, he sticks it right between his legs?

Or when MM says how she likes her martini glasses "Nice and long"?

Or when Sherman is playing the piano and MM yells "Don't stop! Don't stop!"?

This would be lost to a modern audience, and I can't see a role reversal in the script. It wouldn't look right.

Sherman will be black, and the girl will be a trans "girl". At least in the Netflix version.
