Who would be a good Harry Powell in a remake?

I can see Johnny Depp giving a different but equally creepy approach to the character of Powell. The rest of the cast would have to be pretty low-budget though, because it would be very expensive and difficult to cast Depp for a film like this. I remember Depp's performance in Secret Window, another fairly low-budget horror movie with no other huge actors, and he was very creepy in that too. There are a lot of people who could play the part of Powell and maybe be even more menacing than Mitchum, not that Mitchum was even close to bad. What do you all think?

Rick Santorum.

Haha! Lol... but no, although he's scary in a different way, he's mostly harmless.

Russell Crowe would be good.

DUDE! That answer is too perfect!

Josh Brolin

Yes, Brolin would be great in a remake.

Harry Connick Jr. could do it and scare the chit out you. He is very talented in many ways, but is stellar at playing a creepy nutjob....go figure!

GREAT unexpected choice! He'd knock it straight outta the park.

Meh!!

Any remake would be chock full of CGs, with none of the "film noir" B&W atmosphere of the original.
Besides, there's NOBODY today who can come close to the abilities of Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters.
Nobody!

'the assassination of Richard Nixon' reminds me of 'night of the hunter'

There's one person I can think of who could do the job better than anyone else and this is Robert Knepper. Maybe it's because of some similarities to his role in "Prison Break", but as T-Bag he scares me the most in recent years. He played that part so kinky and disturbing, but he never crossed the line to become over-the-top or charitable. He was really scary and would be the best choice for Harry Powell.

Charlie Sheen. I'm SERIOUS. He's got the acting chops, is fine looking, smooth talking, and charismatic....and...

is TOTALLY BONGOS!
