Elia Kazan---What He Really Thought of James Dean---

Chicago American, Thursday, September 7, 1961:

WALTER WINCHELL

. . . . Atomic statement by Elia Kazan, movie stage director, in Paris: "The late Jimmy Dean was a very difficult and most times a thoroly impossible character.. He fought with fellow artists and the crew. It was Julie Harris who tamed him and helped him in 'East of Eden' and she was like a saint to him, even tho Dean tried to ruin her good scenes. He is a legend because he is dead. But no one like him now could be a star." . . . .

^^^I guess that meant that by 1961, no studio would've tolerated his behavior?
