How many whales died to make this film possible?

Everyone knows she looked awful in this for some reason, but I want to know the details of HOW they made her look awful. One of the reasons was that she'd gained a little weight, and they tried to compensate by squeezing her in half to give her a waist.

Did they actually strap that woman into whalebone corsets preserved from the Victoria era, did they put on three 1950s Merry Widows on top of each other, or did they just go for industrial cabling?
