Grace Kelly's beauty

There were times in this movie that, I thought, Grace Kelly looked as good as anybody has ever looked onscreen. She was stunning.

reply

I know! I kept looking at her wondering if anyone before or since has been so gorgeous! I came up with a big NO.

reply

Agreed. I find it interesting that many posters on this site consider Stewart wrong for the part because he was too old and not interested in marrying Kelly. No one seems to have suggested that Kelly was too young and too beautiful for her role. I kinda like it the way it is.

reply

Audrey Hepburn, enough said

Yeah I watched the movie yesterday (for the fourth time in about 20 years) and I couldn't take my eyes off her. No actress has ever radiated beauty like that.

reply

I'll sign that!

I never considered Demi Moore special at all.

reply

Beauty, as we know, is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think Demi Moore is exceptionally attractive. Average, for my taste. As far as Grace Kelly is concerned…I agree she was beautiful. But I think he beauty is often overrated. Beautiful face, svelte figure, feminine posture and movements…and she always had great outfits and hairstyles in her movies. But nothing of that makes her unique, in my opinion.
My grandfather used to say I look like Grace Kelly. Maybe Grandpa needed new glasses. I'm much larger than her. Veronika Ferres would be a better comparison.

You may cross-examine.

Anna Karina in Vivre sa Vie and Bande á Part. That's the most beautiful and charming face on screen ever.

reply

Hard to argue with that. A.Hepburn and Karina are 1 and 1A for me.

reply

That's the word - radiating beauty. It's just something she has, she didn't ever tried or pushed it in any kind of way. And the scene with the white dress.. still dreaming about having the same one.

reply

yeah .I think i gave this movie 2 more points solely for Grace Kelly. She was a pleasure to look at

But there were other women as stunning or even more so, for example:

Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct
Salma Hayek in from Dusk till Dawn

reply

"Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct
Salma Hayek in from Dusk till Dawn"

That's your opinion and entitled to it. lol

Sharon Stone was perfect as the ultimate male seducer in Basic Instinct. She's sexual... like Marilyn Monroe. BUT, neither of them had the stunning beauty, class and sophistication of Grace Kelly.

To put it bluntly, I would have a great time, having Sharon Stone over a barrel, but I wouldn't even feel comfortable defiling the beautiful sunset / sunrise / flower that was Grace Kelly.

reply

"... the beautiful sunset/sunrise/flower that was Grace Kelly."

Ahhhh . . . a little bit of poetry is rare but always welcome in an IMDb post!

I never really thought Grace Kelly was all that awesome looking. I can think of a lot of actresses that I really thought looked great, and GK isn't even on the list. I would take Salma Hayek, for example, anytime over Kelly. Probably Sharon Stone too, and she's not one of my favorites at all.

On a similar subject, Kate Moss is in the 60th anniversary issue of Playboy. I find her pretty repulsive. An informal survey of friends and their spouses showed an interesting divide along the sex of the person asked. Out of 12 men I asked, none of us, not one, think she's anything great. 12 of us, including myself, had reactions to her choice as the 60th anniversary layout subject such as, "Hell no!", "Jeezus", "You've got to be kidding!", and more than once, "Hefner must be senile!". The best opinion of her was "Meh!". From the women, it was another story. Out of the 10 I asked, seven think she's great looking. Two were, "She's pretty", and one said, "Yuck!". I wish someone would do a study of the opinions of the looks of models over a large number, the results would probably be very interesting.

"Class and sophistication of Grace Kelly"? She was a bricklayer's daughter with a veneer of a toffee-nosed voice cultivated at finishing school. That doesn't give you class or sophistication. Wasn't much of an actress, more to the point -- more, a model.

reply

Where did you get that idea? According to her imdb bio, "Grace Patricia Kelly was born on November 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to wealthy parents. She was the daughter of Margaret Katherine (Majer), a phys ed instructor, and John Brendan Kelly, Sr., a three-time Olympic Gold winner for rowing."

reply

I got that idea from general knowledge, Pervy_Grin. (Yipes)

Yes, her father was 40 by the time Grace was born, was past his rowing days (being in the Olympics wasn't actually his career) and was quite successful -- in bricks.

So, your point is?

Gary64659: what a snarky, bilious post. You must be British.

The last time I saw Rear Window in the theater, men in the audience literally gasped when Grace first stepped into focus, looming over Jeff. I think I did too. Her beauty literally took our breath away.
