Ray Milland's performance.

This really is one of Ray Milland's best performances of his career, in my opinion (one of the best, behind The Lost Weekend). His character was evil and quite the sociopath, but somehow I rooted for him to accomplish the murder completely because he was so charming. He had a very interesting part.

He won. Get over it.

Hit the nail on the head there. Between his acting and a brilliant script he was able to convey a character that I liked and rooted for, even though he was clearly so psychotic/evil that he was able to hatch 2 detailed plans to have his wife killed, one of which in a matter of minutes. This is my favourite Hitchcock picture.

I take issue with your use of "psychotic". He displays no signs of psychosis at all throughout this. Very nitpicky, I know, I'm sorry.

I agree (except for the getting away with it part). I especially like when he gets busted. He quickly resumes his charming facade, congratulates the inspector, and asks everyone if they want a drink.

It's my favorite performance of his.

Peter Bogdonovich says Dial M was his best indeed.
